S.D. Science and Technology Authority plans for new hires

Members of the S.D. Science and Technology Authority recently put out job postings for a director of environment, health and safety, director of projects, director of human resources, a chief financial officer, an operations safety officer, a facilities technician and a secretary. According to the S.D. Science and Technology Authority Web site, the director of environment, health and safety will oversee health and safety operations that relate to re-entering the Homestake Mine, water pumping and treatment, infrastructure needs in the underground laboratory, and surface construction.

The director of projects will direct planning, development and project oversight for new facilities and infrastructure at the lab. The director of human resources will be in charge of all human resource functions for the Authority, including components related to the underground laboratories, the science and education centers and the research centers.

The chief financial officer for the Authority will direct the development and maintenance for Authority accounting systems, including the annual budget and other accounting processes. The operations safety officer will inspect environment, health and safety conditions, including potentially hazardous conditions that are related to re-entering the former Homestake Mine. Other duties related to the mine re-entry, water pumping and treatment, and infrastructure needs will also be related to this position.

The facilities technician will be on-hand to provide maintenance work for Authority facilities and properties. This position requires someone with knowledge of electrical, plumbing, construction, HVAC, equipment maintenance and grounds keeping.

The secretarial position, the last in a long list of advertisements, will provide clerical and administrative support for the S.D. Science and Technology Authority's Executive Director and its public relations staff.
